There’s a new policy from Odoo that’s good news for long-term users - especially those still running older versions of the system. But there’s also an important update that could affect your costs going forward.
If you’re using Odoo and haven’t upgraded in a while, and are on a version older than three years, here’s what you need to know.
Long-term support is now official
Until recently, Odoo’s Enterprise support only covered the three most recent versions, typically offering updates and bug fixes during the supported period. After that, support would end unless you upgraded.
But after listening to customer feedback, Odoo is extending
support to all Enterprise versions, regardless of age.
This means:
You’ll
continue receiving security patches
You’ll
still get bug fixes and technical support
You won’t be forced to upgrade on Odoo’s timeline
Whether you're running the latest version or sticking with
one that’s been serving you well for years, your system is now officially
supported. It’s a big step forward in flexibility, giving businesses more
control over when (and if) they upgrade.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what this means in practice:
From
now
The policy is live - all Odoo Enterprise versions are officially
supported, and the 25% surcharge for legacy versions is now included in
the terms.
Until
April 2026
Odoo is offering a grace period. Even if you're
using an older version, you won’t be charged the extra fee just yet,
giving you time to assess your setup and plan ahead.
After
April 2026
The 25% fee will start applying to renewals for customers still using legacy systems (more than 3 versions behind).
This gives businesses both the reassurance of continued support and the breathing room to upgrade on their own timeline, without being rushed.
What’s changing - and who it affects
If you’re running Odoo version 14 or older, this change introduces a new cost consideration. As of now, Odoo will apply a 25% additional charge to your annual Enterprise subscription if you choose to stay on a version that’s more than three years old.
Here’s a quick summary:
Affected customers |

Odoo.sh / On-Premise (older than 4 years) |
+25% |

Odoo Online (any version) |
None |

Odoo.sh / On-Premise (recent versions) |

This applies to new or renewed contracts from now
onward. If you’re already on a recent version, you won’t see any changes in
cost or support.
Why this matters for your business
This change gives businesses more flexibility. We understand that not every company can upgrade within the typical three-version window.
But it also means businesses now need to weigh up the costs of staying on an older version. The 25% premium might not seem like much for a few users - but for larger teams, it can quickly become a significant cost. If you're not making use of the new features and improvements that come with each version, it’s worth reviewing your options.
At Smart IT, we often work with teams that originally delayed upgrading to avoid disruption. But once they made the move, they found processes ran smoother, teams worked faster, and visibility across departments improved, all without breaking existing workflows.
What is the best move?
If you're unsure whether to stick with your current version or upgrade, here are a few questions to consider:
Would
a cost increase outweigh the benefits of staying on your current setup?
Are
you happy with how your current system is performing?
Have
you missed out on new features that could save time or reduce manual work?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. But if your version is more than three years old, it’s worth reviewing where you stand - and what options make the most sense, both functionally and financially.

If your current
version is more than three years old, it’s a good idea to start upgrade
discussions at least 6–8 months before your renewal - especially if your system
includes custom code. This gives you enough time for testing, training, and a
smooth transition.
